What a Irish invoice should include
If you’re VAT-registered in Ireland, show your VAT number and the VAT rate (23% standard, with 13.5% and 9% reduced rates for some sectors) as a separate line — enter the rate in the Tax % field. Include a sequential invoice number, your name and address, the customer’s details, the date, and clear payment terms. If you’re not registered, leave VAT off entirely.
For the universal essentials, see the full invoice checklist, or read how to invoice a client end to end.
Frequently asked questions
What VAT rate applies in Ireland?
The standard rate is 23%. Reduced rates of 13.5% and 9% apply to specific goods and services (e.g. certain trades and hospitality). Put whichever rate applies to you in the Tax % field and it’s calculated automatically.
Do I need to be VAT-registered to invoice?
No — only once you pass the Revenue turnover thresholds (different for goods and services). Below them, registration is optional; if you’re not registered, don’t charge or reference VAT on the invoice.
